Baseball….

November 5th, 2007 · No Comments

I always told myself if I moved somewhere, there would be mountains and Major League Baseball nearby. I guess I got 50 percent — not bad.

Baseball is the greatest game in the world. As has been said, basketball and football are games of pituitary freaks — baseball is the common man’s game.

Don’t get me wrong — I love football and basketball. But baseball mirrors the dreams of America, where a common man can become the world’s greatest with some hard work and a little luck.

Just about three miles down the road, the Baltimore Orioles have their spring camp.

Down here along the Gold Coast during the regular season, we have the Marlins. They aren’t very good, despite two World Series championships. But talk is, the Marlins could be in the running for A-Rod.

Here’s a classic column about it.

A few favorites:

4. You can use the line, “We’ll win more games than the Dolphins – and that’s a guarantee!”
8. After years of overexposure in New York, it’ll be the All-Star break before anyone notices you’re a Marlin.
15. Hey, famous people escorting mystery blonds through hotels is an every-minute occurrence on South Beach.
22. Possible marketing campaign: “See A-Rod and the B-Team!”
33. You won’t have to share the stage with household names like Jeter, Clemens, Rivera and Damon. You won’t even have heard of the guys you’ll be playing with.
36. Newspapers here aren’t creative enough to write the headline: “Stray-Rod.”
