My favorite slogan…..

I have a favorite patriotic saying….

“Live free or die.”

It’s on the New Hampshire license plates. It’s that state’s motto. From Wikipedia:

“The phrase comes from a toast written by General John Stark on July 31, 1809. Poor health forced Stark, New Hampshire’s most famous soldier of the American Revolutionary War, to decline an invitation to an anniversary reunion of the Battle of Bennington and to send his toast by letter: Live free or die: Death is not the worst of evils.”

I like it because it speaks to the fierce independent streak many Americans have that is foreign to much of the world. Today I saw a great picture:

It goes with this:

“Iranian students staged a new demonstration at Tehran University on Sunday, damaging the main gate to allow outsiders into the campus and denouncing President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, news agencies reported.”

Hope those guys don’t end up political prisoners.

Clicky clicky.
